ROUNDUP: Manteca defeats Lancers for FULL tennis win

The singles ladder took care of business for the Mantecas girls tennis team in a 7-2 victory over East Union at the Manteca Regional Tennis Center on Thursday.

The Buffaloes (4-1, 5-4 overall) remain in second place in the Valley Oak League.

Reigning singles champion Emma Ngo defeated Jalyssa Molina in the No. 1 match 6-3, 6-1. Shreya Raman rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 against Gianna Fernandez. No. 3 Michailla Springs defeated Miranda Renter 6-3, 6-1. Simar Mann won the No. 4 match 6-1, 6-0 against Gabriela Castillo. Parm Noor triumphed at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Carrera Mendez. Pailsey Coenenberg won the No. 6 match against Shayla LaGrande 6-0, 6-1.

Mantecas No. 1 doubles team of Allyson Alvarado and Pia Kley held off Danica Sanchez and Danica Simpson 6-2, 7-6 (4).

East Union prevailed in the No. 2 doubles match as Samantha Escamilla and Jaklyn Virelas defeated Rubi Sepulveda and Deailah Sanchez Torres 2-6, 6-2, 10-8. The Lancers also won the third match 6-0, 6-0, with Roshel Mathew and Atyana Rodriguez topping Tania Muniz and Sandy Muniz.

Oakdale 7, Sierra 2

Host Sierra earned a narrow victory over No. 2 singles Mikayla Villalobos, who squeaked past Riley Coviello-Miller 7-5, 6-4.

Elina Nguyen outlasted Emily Correia at No. 6 singles, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 12-10. No. 5 singles also went to a tiebreaker in the third set, as Oakdale's Jacy Dorr triumphed over Puneet Gill, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Ripon Christian 3, Orestimba 1

In Newman, the Knights (3-2, 9-11 overall) rekindled their old Southern Athletic League rivalry with Orestimba (0-5, 14-9) and powered their way to a much-needed 21-25, 25-17 . 26-24, 25-21 win in Trans-Valley League play.

Ripon Christian took the crucial third set, scoring five unanswered points after trailing, 24-21.

Outside hitters Paige Van Hofwegan and Morgan Schenk led the charge. Van Hofwegan scored 21 kills and made no mistakes on her 48 attempts. She has also conducted 33 excavations.

Schenk scored 13 kills and setter Alanna Blanco dished out 49 assists. Anneke Dyt has made 33 excavations. Tatum Sonke served three aces.

Butter 3, Oakdale

Saniyah Anthony recorded eight kills, 10 digs, 12 service points and two aces as the Buffaloes (4-2, 9-5) stormed to a 25-19, 25-16, 25-21 VOL victory.

Libero Nicole Ayala led the defense with 14 digs, and Kamiyah Johnson had 10 digs and eight service points. Riley Ward had eighteen assists. Ariceli Castillo contributed six kills and seven service points. Talia Shellbourne recorded three kills and three blocks.

Lathrop 3, Franklin 0

The host Spartans (11-4) cruised to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 victory in the non-league match.

Elizabeth Andrade produced 13 kills, five aces and six digs. Siliana Faataualofa added five kills, four aces and four digs. Erin Chunn had four kills and two digs.

Setter Ayden Petroff dished out 23 assists, and libero Justine Mabutas picked up 13 digs.

Ripon 3, Step 0

The Indians (5-0, 16-1 overall) continued their dominant TVL title defense with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-13 sweep at home.

Adrianna Dorn dished out 16 kills and seven aces with five more digs. Jorie Eskes added 10 kills and two blocks. Shayla McKeon had seven kills and one solo thing. Setter Katelyn Bogetti provided 28 assists.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Sierra 52, Berghuis 0

Maitland Kohoutek threw for four touchdowns and snagged three interceptions on defense as the Timberwolves (5-1, 12-5 overall) dominated for the VOL victory.

The junior quarterback completed 13 of 16 passes for 253 yards. Janessa Barnes was on the receiving end of four touchdowns and finished with nine catches and 89 yards. Alison Cozby (one reception, 40 yards), Priya Dhaliwal (three receptions, 86 yards) Zoe Sutton (nine receptions, 83 yards), each caught on touchdown.

Taylor Zalunardo collected five tackles and an interception. Tessa Zalunardo contributed 92 yards and three touchdowns on 12-of-15 passing, while running for 30 yards on three carries.

JV girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Franklin 0

Lathrop prevailed, 25-13, 25-17.

Brianna Valencia led the Spartans with five kills and four digs. Araya Carson had four kills and five digs. Hazel Beltran fired five aces, Vivianna Salcedo dished out 13 assists and Sarah Garcia collected nine digs to go with two aces.

Oakdale 2, Butter

Manteca fell short, 23-25, 25-13, 9-15.

Naima Calderon led the Buffaloes with 12 service points, nine digs and two kills. Annika Burns added 11 assists and three kills. Jacqueline Leon had eight digs. Audrey McKee recorded six murders and five digs.

Frosh girls volleyball

Lathrop 2, Franklin 0

Lathrop had his way with the Yellowjackets, 25-7, 25-11.

Audrina Fisher dished out four kills and five aces with three digs and a block. Andrea Lemus served five aces while adding two kills and two digs. Aylin Reyes had two kills, two digs and a block.

Alexza Bringas (seven assists, two digs) and Cassidy Faalii (four assists, three digs) shared setting duties. Lilyanna Murillo anchored the back row with 11 digs.

Butter 2, Oakdale

The Buffs rolled to a 25-16, 25-17 victory.

Lana Bondoc produced 18 digs and two aces. Susan Joseph turned up eight digs and six aces. Jill Aldape added eight assists, three digs, two kills and two aces.
