World No. 1 Sun Yingsha reaches the last 32 on WTT China Smash
BEIJING – Top Chinese paddler Sun Yingsha defeated Poland's Natalia Bajor 11-7, 11-1, 11-8 to reach the last 32 of the women's singles as the main draw of the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash kicked off on Sunday.
The opening ceremony of WTT China Smash took place before the match between Sun and Bajor. A famous song “Welcome to Beijing”, written for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, brought the atmosphere in the hall to its peak.
The 27-year-old Bajor took the upper hand at the start of the first set, before Sun quickly adapted to pull past and seal an 11-7 win. In the next two sets, the Chinese favorite kept the momentum and took the victory in straight sets.
“This is the first time Beijing is hosting WTT Smash. I feel quite good in the first round match with the warm support from the crowd. I hope to make progress match by match to further improve my performance,” said Sun , 23. said after the match.
On Sunday evening, Wang Chuqin, world number 4 Wang Yidi, and Japan's Mima Ito will make an appearance at the tournament held at Beijing's Shougang Park.
