After a whirlwind of goaltending activity in Flyers land that had nothing to do with Ivan Fedotov, the Russian goaltender got the start. And while his better half earned a 37-shot shutout against the Islanders, Fedotov was tested early when Couturier's line was boxed in. He also made a shot when Morgan Geekie collided with him, negating a Bruins power play, but luckily he was no worse for wear. . As bad as the Flyers' defensive play was in the first twenty, Fedotov was busy and outplayed the coverage in front of him.

As for his angles being challenging and not deep into his net all play well for Fedotov. Having a guy who can stop the puck going into the regular season is something that should give the skaters in front of him a little more confidence. The consistency in his play has been an asset and if that is maintained it can do nothing but help the Flyers.

Ginning, Ginning, away

If there was any idea that Adam Ginning could somehow turn it around and salvage his slim chances of a spot in the team, they were pretty much blown away on Saturday night when he was all bad. Whether it was just bad positioning, bad giveaways or needing some tough love or a pep talk from coach Brad Shaw (John Tortorella back in the press box), Ginning looked lost despite leading all defensemen in ice time after one period .

On the ice, joining Jamie Drysdale on the first Bruins goal, Ginning (who took a minor penalty late in the first) may not be in Vancouver when the regular season starts unless Danny Briere makes a trade for him with the Canucks settle. In short, he did nothing to convince even die-hard fans (maybe a small portion of Flyers nation somewhere) that he deserved another game.

Richard steady, Lycksell sweet

Anthony Richard didn't do much to put him in the conversation with Michkov, Brink or Luchanko, but in terms of a bottom-six forward, he was probably one of the nicer surprises for Philadelphia. Richard, like Rodrigo Abols, is big and bulky. But Richard has extra equipment that Abols doesn't have. This was shown midway through the first when he created a short two-on-one, a pass over but with no payoff. He may still be a dark horse to earn a roster spot given the competition, but Anthony Richard certainly makes a case.

The case was also made loud and clear by Olle Lycksell, who had two assists and occasionally had some synergy with Michkov on the power play. Lycksell's name was heard often throughout the game, with plenty of upside in his play and decision-making. He looked as strong as Bobby Brink to start the exhibition season

Jett's line isn't exactly flying

Most eyes still looked to Jett Luchanko and saw a player with flashes of skill and talent and always fast, but who didn't do too much in the opening period. But for most of the night, aside from a nice long pass he made to Scott Laughton in the second, he was fairly quiet for the first 30 minutes. It seems like the kid has a lot to offer the Flyers, but just not this season. These are games that he doesn't have to completely dominate, but he does have to be much more striking than the last two games. Luchanko had some time on the power play in the second, but nothing came of it.

Power play? Yes!

A parade of power play time didn't result in four or five goals (one of seven total), but it did give the Flyers a ton of time to get some real game experience. It's still a work in progress, but you have to smile at what Michkov is capable of, even sliding a pass under the goalie's stick for a big chance in the homestretch of the third (and on their seventh power play).

The first full-length power play came early in the second. Michkov was the first unit quarterback and created a great feed for Konecny ​​that was foiled. Unfortunately, the subsequent shift saw Couturier move a lot of vacant real estate away from Jonas Korpisalo. He passed it. Wrong move. Bruins took the ice again and scored a short-handed goal. The Flyers then awarded another minor penalty to the Bruins, creating a brief two-man lead. Although that went to pot, Michkov, again quarterbacking everything from the wing, started a nice play that ended with a nice tap near the post for a power play goal, his first of hopefully many as a Flyer.
