Nearly 600 competitors gathered Saturday at Kerrville's Flat Rock Park for the 3rd annual Antler River Run Cross Country Meet hosted by Tivy, whose home track will also serve as the site for 26-5A races later in October.
There were 277 high school students and another 320 participated in high school races.
The Lady Antlers finished second in the team standings behind Boerne Champion with 48 points behind Champions 28. Behind the Lady Antlers were Comal Pieper, Medina Valley, San Angelo Central, San Antonio Home School, Champion B, Medina Valley B, Central B and SA -veterans monument.
Hattie Gilbreath and Hannah Hood followed Tivy's strong finish in the varsity girls 5K (3.1 miles) as they came in 1-2 with times of 19:22 and 19:23, respectively. There were 84 participants.
The strength in the peloton came from Danna Cisneros (20:58), Paulina Orta-Mejia (21:02) and Ainslee Gilbreath (21:04) with a place of 14-15-16.
Olivia Wrase (23rd, 21:25) and Lyla Farhoudi (29th, 22:05) rounded out Tivy's seven-member varsity A unit. Hailey Harmon (55th, 24:29) and Hailey Von Nostrand (62nd, 24:58) represented the B team.
In the varsity boys 5K Gold Division for more experienced and experienced runners, there were 68 entries, and Tivys Hunter Evans gave the Antlers their best performance with an eighth-place finish in a time of 17:02.
Hudson Cowart (18:09), Jose Salinas (18:27), Jesus Rodelo (18:42) and Trey Gonzalez (19:23) took positions 32-36-41-55.
In the team standings, Tivy ranked sixth, just ahead of SA Home School, but behind Medina Valley, SA Christian, Pieper, Central and Champion.
Tivy led four Antlers in the boys 5K Silver Division for JV-caliber athletes trying to gain more high school racing experience.
Trent Brundrett's time (19:36) was ninth for Tivy's best among 93 runners.
The other team members were Jayen Dequina (20:58), Jonathan Anderson (21:50) and Baldemar Robelldo (22:20) with 35-55-63.
The 26-5A meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 9 from 8:30 am
