Why are there two 'MNF' games?
The N.F.L completed the current media rights deal in 2021, and as part of the deal, ESPN and ABC received additional game broadcasts, including an expansion of multi-game “Monday Night Football” broadcasts.
The N.F.L has fielded “MNF” doubleheaders for years, usually for games on both the West and East Coast, but only recently did ESPN air more of an overlapping schedule. That included matchups at the beginning and end of the season on the 2023 schedule, including when two games started at the same time last December.
