Red Wings Ready To Play Two
It's a strange situation for the Detroit Red Wings will certainly be confronted with. However, Wings coach Derek Lalonde doesn't necessarily see it as a bad situation.
The Red Wings will play two NHL preseason games on Monday. They will be home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena. That is a make-up game for the game that was postponed on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a second batch of Red Wings heads to Buffalo to take on the Sabers. That was the originally scheduled game for Monday. Both matches start at 7:00 PM ET.
Buffalo is in a similar situation. The Sabers currently have the majority of their NHL team playing in Europe. That probably means the Buffalo-Detroit game will look a lot more like a Grand Rapids vs. Rochester AHL game.
“This is a rare, unique one,” said Lalonde, who doesn't seem to care about the demanding slate his team faces. They are in Pittsburgh tomorrow, at home in Toronto on Thursday and in Ottawa on Friday before heading to Toronto on Saturday to close out the preseason.
Lalonde dealing with red wings at home
While Lalonde leads the Wings at home tonight, Grand Rapids-Griffins coach Dan Watson and Toledo Walleye coach Pat Mikesch handle the team playing at Buffalo.
“It actually works fine,” Lalonde continued. “You get the two teams going. I don't know if it's ideal, six games in six days. It will be a little taxing on some of the guys.”

The Detroit coach prefers to focus on the positive in this unusual scenario. With plenty of games scheduled over the next week, this gives him plenty of opportunity to gauge not only the abilities of some of the team's prospects, but also how they'll handle the challenge of a bit of adversity. It is these players who will suffer most from the workload in the coming days.
“I think it's actually going quite well, with the boys obviously having Saturday night off and then Sunday off,” Lalonde said. “Again, there will be a few guys that are stuck with some back-to-backs and three-in-fours, but those are probably some of those guys we would like to see as well.
“Guys beg for games, so that's not even it. It's not such a bad schedule coming here.”
Patrick Kane was among the Red Wings who sat in the locker room Saturday waiting for a game that didn't happen. He will get a chance to face the Penguins tonight at LCA.
“A little different than a day,” Kane said. “I'm sure the coaches are busy having two teams, and a game tomorrow as well. So it's a bit of an unusual schedule.”
