UC Davis Tennis has its largest Pro-Am in program history
DAVIS, California. – Under beautiful California skies, the Marya Welch Tennis Center hosted the largest pro-am event in UC Davis tennis history Sunday morning, with 127 competitors and 34 sponsors putting together a great day.
“I want to tell all of you how important this is for our program,” said newly appointed women's tennis head coach Sara Jackson. “Everything we give today adds to all the success we have here on the tennis courts, so it is very much appreciated and we can't thank you enough.”
Each program individually raised $20,000, which will go directly to each program and will play a major role in their success in the upcoming season.
“I want to thank all the people who traveled far and gave today,” said the men's tennis head coach Eric Steidlmayer. “Thank you to everyone who made it, today's impact will be clearly visible on the courses this year.”
The event began with an introduction for each team's student-athletes. It continued with many different stations such as a tennis clinic, doubles rounds and question and answer sessions, while there were prizes to be won for first place among the men's and women's competitors, as well as raffle prizes.
“I think this will be the start of a new chapter next year,” Jackson said. “And I go into it with great enthusiasm, in part because of the Aggie pride the community is exhibiting today.”
