Benson joins the men's tennis staff as an assistant coach
JACKSONVILLE, FL – Men's tennis in North Florida proudly announces Max Benson to the Osprey staff as an assistant coach, as announced by the head coach John Collins on Tuesday afternoon.
“We are super excited to have Max [Benson] help coach our program this year,” said Collins. “He's a great player and sees the game well, but most importantly, he's a first-class person. Max will be a phenomenal coach and I am grateful that he will spend time helping our players.”
He will reunite with head coach Collins after playing under him at Presbyterian College from 2020-2323. He joins Louis Delcourthe former South Alabama standout entering his second year with the Ospreys as an assistant coach.
Benson is currently ranked No. 815 in doubles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He captured his first professional tennis championship last summer with a doubles victory in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) 2024 M25 Telfs tournament in Telfs, Austria.
Benson was a dominant player for the Blue Hose under Collins, winning Big South Player of the Year in 2021. He also won Big South Freshman of the Year before Collins arrived in 2019.
The Albany, NY native led the team to conference tournament victories in both 2021 and 2023, as well as a regular season championship in 2023.
Benson is ranked No. 22 in the ITA doubles rankings and is the most decorated player in the DI era at Presbyterian. He also adds four Big South All-Conference honors, ITA Scholar-Athlete and Big South Honor Roll honors to his list of career achievements at the collegiate level.
