Wynberg Cricket Club appoints new captain after relegation to WPCA First Division C

Wynberg Cricket Club has named batsman Munier Khopatkar captain of the Western Province Cricket Association First Division C 2024-2025.

Khopatkar has succeeded the former Wynberg Cricket Club captain Yusri Sulaiman.

Meanwhile all-rounder Muhammad Rahman has returned to Wynberg Cricket Club. Rahman has returned to the role of player-coach after one season at Rylands Cricket Club in the 2023-2024 WPCA Premier League.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mohammed as our own player-coach for the coming season. He has been invaluable to the club in the past,” said a statement from Wynberg Cricket Club.

“He will lead the coaching department and contribute as a player. We wish him every success in this new venture. We are convinced that he has the capabilities required for this moving our club forward.”

Rahman succeeds former head coach Kyle Princewho left after Wynberg Cricket Club was relegated to the 2024-25 WPCA First Division C after finishing the 2023-2024 First Division B in penultimate place. They won four and lost fourteen games.

Wynberg Cricket Club has also appointed a new assistant coach Kevin Duminy.

“Kevin has been working at the club for a while over 20 years. We are pleased to make this appointment as Kevin embodies everything about Wynberg and we wish him nothing but the best in his new role,” said Wynberg Cricket Club.
