Gophers women's hockey has a 17-year-old budding star in Chloe Primerano
It just worked that way, Primerano said.
WCHA coaches voted her the preseason Rookie of the Year pick. She won the U18 world tournament MVP, the best defender award and was the career top scorer for a defender and career top scorer by a Canadian. Her older brother Luca plays in the junior British Columbia Hockey League. She was drafted in the 13th round of the 2022 Western Hockey League draft by the Vancouver Giants, the first female skater drafted by a WHL club, and joined them for training camp in 2023.
But it's over now, Primerano said.
Now she wants to improve every day and make it to the Canadian national team. Frost calls it an incredible passion for the game.
She loves hockey and it shows every day, Frost said. She eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. When you have such a passion, it cannot help but bleed into the ice. She is incredibly gifted, has great feet, fantastic offensive ability and sees the ice very well. She is a complete hockey player.
Primerano credits some of that to her older brother and tries to ignore what Frost calls the hype about her.
