The NCAA is ready to vote on a proposal that would make Canadian major junior players immediately eligible to play college hockey.
The NCAA Division I Council will adopt a recommendation to adopt emergency legislation that would lift the ban on major junior players in NCAA hockey, according to a source. The council meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
A committee studying eligibility concepts recommended the change, which would prevent legal challenges to NCAA rules that have stripped eligibility for players who have appeared in major junior games.
Lawyers for Canadian player Rylan Masterson alleged in a lawsuit filed in August that the NCAA's rule depriving players who play games in the Canadian Hockey League of eligibility violates U.S. antitrust laws.
