Men's Tennis Battles on Day 1 of UCSB Fall Classic
SANTA BARBARA, California.The University of Hawaii men's tennis team competed hard Friday on the opening day of the UC Santa Barbara Fall Classic at the Arnhold Tennis Center. The Rainbow Warriors did well, winning three singles and two doubles matches to kick off.
In singles, three Rainbow Warriors achieved straight-set victories. Junior transfer Azuma Visaya led the way, edging past Santa Clara's John Kim in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Diego Dalisay defeated Sean Ferguson of Cal Poly 6-3, 6-3 and UH's False Urano pulled away to beat Aidan Watt of St. Mary's-CA 6-3, 6-1. Quinn Snyder was eliminated in a three-set battle with Dominique Rolland of UCSB, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. UC Davis' Ivan Savkin held his ground Andy Hernández by a break in both sets, 7-5, 6-4 and Carl Collins fell in two against UCSB's Gustav Theilgaard.
Hawai'i won two of their three doubles matches. UH's duo of Visaya and Snyder doubled down on Santa Clara's Lukas Maskow and Kim 8-4, while the senior pair of Collins and Hernandez defeated St. Mary's Ellison Greco and Carlos Ramos Membrives 8-3.
In the main event, UH's Visaya will face UCSB's Conrad Brown. Dalisay will face UCSB's Matei Gavre and Urano will play UC San Diego's James Krantz. In the consolation round, Hawaii's Collins will face St. Mary's Pierre Lieutaud and Andy Hernández will compete against Sascha Nothdurft of LMU. UH's Snyder has retired.
In the winners' round of the doubles main draw, the UH duo of Visaya and Snyder will face Cal Poly's Raz Haviv and Sean Kamyshev, and Collins and Hernandez will face Santa Clara's Alexander Watanabe Eriksson and Luca Lemaitre. On the consolation side, UH's Dalisay and Urano will face off against Aiden Watt and Liam Carpenter.
