Vijaysinh Mahida Obituary – The Detroit News
It is with great sadness that the Mahida family of Troy, MI announces the peaceful passing of Dr. Vijaysinh Mahida, a consultant, an engineer, an entrepreneur and an innovative person in the field of community relations par excellence, on October 2, 2024 at his residence in Troy at the ripe old age of 87 years. Dr. Mahida is survived by his devoted wife Sunanda, four children, Ranjitsinh, Sumita, Shirish and Priya, and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Astrid and Lara. Vijay was born on March 17, 1937 in Pune, India. Growing up, he excelled early in school and sports. He played cricket at the state level and table tennis at the national level. He obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from MS University of Baroda, India. He then first ventured to study in Germany where he obtained his Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Engineering from the Technical University of Munich. After settling in the Detroit community in the United States, he continued his education where he received his MBA and CPA from Walsh College in Troy. His professional life was primarily focused on his work as an engineer, registered surveyor and community activist, starting with Mayor Coleman Young and campaigning for President Bill Clinton, including fundraising. Dr. Mahida was known and appreciated as a brilliant and inspiring professional and an inquisitive student. He had a charming personality, was often funny and had a Can Do attitude that inspired us all. He had an unapologetic enthusiasm for living his life with great enthusiasm and he inspired everyone around him. He took big risks and overcame personal and professional obstacles with unwavering conviction, decency, clarity and humor. Vijay helped, inspired and mentored many young people at the start of their careers, encouraging and supporting them without hesitation. In addition to his intelligence and drive to learn new things, he was also a caring soul. He touched many lives by giving his unconditional love and joy. He taught us a path to live with pride, dignity and decency while always remaining humble. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends and those whose lives he touched. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at AJ Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd. (between Maple & Big Beaver), Troy, (248) 362-2500.
