Mount Tennis posts singles win, doubles win at MAAC Masters tournament
Hamden, Conn. (October 5, 2024)Freshman Venus Tang earned a victory in singles Philip Zachiotis And Alexi Roy teamed up for a doubles victory as the Mount wrapped up action at the MAAC Masters Tournament hosted by Quinnipiac University.
Tang recorded a straight-set victory over Siena's Manuela Gomez in the Round of 32, recording a 6-3, 6-2 win. Tang advanced against top-seeded Vera Sekerina of Quinnipiac in the Round of 16, by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Emma Perkins fell to Niagara's Maria Melo 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2) in the opening round. Perkins and Tang teamed up in doubles, falling to a duo from Niagara in the round of 16.
On the men's side, Roy was defeated by Merrimack's Charles Robertson, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10) in the round of 32, while Zachiotis was defeated by Gurustat Singh Makkar, 6-4, 6-4 , in the Round of 16. Roy and Zachiotis combined for a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4) win over Yasha Laskin and Donovan Brown of Quinnipiac in the Round of 16 before losing to a pair of Marist, 6-1 , in the quarter-finals.
Both the Mount men's and women's teams will be back in action at the ITA Atlantic Regionals.
