Women's tennis advances to doubles finals of the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The University of Hawaii women's tennis doubles duo of Makeila Nepomuceno and Hanna Galindo won both Saturday matches to advance to the championship match on Sunday in the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament at the Rhodes Tennis Center. In Honolulu, the Rainbow Wahine won their doubles matches and split their singles matches on Day 2 of the UH 'Anuenue Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex.
Nepomuceno and Galindo cruised past Cal Poly's Peyton Duncle and Amy Leather 8-3 in the quarterfinals. Then in the semifinals, the 'Bows defeated CSUN's Yuliia Zhytelna and Angela Ho in a pro-set tie-breaker, 8-7 (5). Nepomuceno and Galindo advance to Sunday's title doubles match against Cal State Fullerton duo Sein Myong and Mariia Nikitash.
In consolation matches, UH won three of six matches. Galindo won her first set in a tiebreaker and then cruised past UC Irvine's Carlyna Fowler 7-6 (4), 6-1 for the straight-set victory. UHs Emma Forgac knocked out Madeleine Page of UC Davis in the first set and then stopped her with a break in the second for a 6-0, 6-4 victory, and Allaire Berl bounced back after dropping the first set to defeat Cal Poly's Alexandra Ozerets, culminating in a hard-fought super tie-breaker in the third set, in which Berl prevailed, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11 ).
Back in Honolulu, UH's Sheena Masuda And Jazzlyn Miyamura combined for a 6-2 doubles win over Palma and Hawai'I Pacific's Kader. UH split their singles matches with Miyamura, although they fell to a tie-breaker in the first set, recording the victory via retirement over Hakovirta, 6-7 (5), ret.. The Sharks' Hernandez defeated UH's Masuda in a third set super tie breaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7).
