Men's tennis wins five matches on day two of the Big 12/SEC Challenge
Waco, Texas Texas Men's Tennis won five matches on day two of the Big 12/SEC Challenge at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco on Saturday. The Longhorns won all four singles matches against players from Oklahoma State, plus one doubles match against Arizona State.
Starting in doubles, seniors Pierre Yves Bailly and freshmen Timo Legout secured their second victory of the tournament with an 8-4 decision over Roi Ginat and Mike Anderson of the Sun Devils. The Longhorns' only loss of the day came when they were sophomores Lucas Brown and freshmen Evan Burnett fell to ASU's Nikola Cigna and Daniel Phillips.
Later in the day, all four Texas players posted singles wins, led by Legout's second win in as many matches of his UT career when he defeated No. 100 Derek Pham of Oklahoma State 6-4, 6-1. Meanwhile, No. 46 Bailly defeated Alessio Basile 6-2, 6-3, No. 124 Brown defeated Thomas Gadecki 6-2, 6-1, and Burnett recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Ian Bracks.
The tournament features individual play with members of schools from the SEC, including Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M, playing against those from the Big 12, including Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
Play concludes on Sunday when the Longhorns take on Oklahoma State in doubles and Baylor in singles.
Due to renovations to the scoreboard at the Hurd Tennis Center, live statistics may not be available, but results will be included in the draw. ITA Tournament Hub.
