Cassopolis cancels the remainder of the varsity football season
CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (WNDU) – Cassopolis Public Schools announced Thursday evening that it has canceled the remaining high school varsity football games this season.
In a letter to families, principal/athletic director Lindsay Gorham-Pflug said the district has made the difficult decision to cancel the team's final two games due to the health, safety and well-being of the students.
Recent circumstances, including numerous injuries, have made it clear that continuing the season would pose unnecessary risks to our athletes, Gorham-Pflug said.
The announcement comes just one day before Cassopolis was set to host Decatur. The team's last game would be in Dowagiac in two weeks.
The Rangers finish the season with a 1-5 record. Their only win came last Friday at Comstock.
With the game against Decatur canceled, the district has planned a special event on the school's football field Friday evening to honor the senior football players, band members and cheerleaders.
