Men's tennis kicks off the Hawaii Fall Invitational
HONOLULU–The University of Hawaii men's tennis team hosted Hawaii Pacific Ocean and Hawaii Hello to open Day 1 Hawaii Fall Invitational on Friday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors won two of their three doubles matches and five of eight singles matches on Friday.
The UH duo is in doubles Quinn Snyder And Azuma Visayasdefeated the Vulcans' Sergi Dye and Jaime Paquet, 6-2, while Angus Hill And Conner Kurata declined HPUs Jacob Pearce and Filippo Di Perna, 6-2.
For singles, Hawaiis Visayasdrove past UHHs Di Perna in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Snyder followed by defeating HPU's Julius Hell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. UHs Carl Collins fought to capture his first set on a tiebreaker, then held off Hawai'i Hilo's Luca Matheiowetz 7-6 (5), 6-2. UH's Hill bounced back after dropping the first set to come back and beat the rout Vulcans' Iori Furuhata in a marathon, third set super tie-breaker, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0(12). Hawai'i Hilo's Sergi Tintore won the second set to even his match against UH's Andy Hernández. But Hernandez prevailed in a third-set super tiebreak, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (6).
The Hawaii Fall Invitational will not play on Saturday, but will conclude on Sunday, October 13 beginning at 9 a.m. HT at the UH Tennis Complex.
