A-State Tennis Battles Friday at ITA Regionals
MEMPHISS, Tenn. (10/11/24) Arkansas State women's tennis battled tough competition Friday at the ITA Central Regionals, held at the Leftwich Tennis Center.
The Red Wolves took on multiple ranked or Power-5 foes that day in both singles and doubles.
Freshman Loles Carbo Chova came out on top in a singles match against Sarah Hartel of Missouri, winning in threes 6-1, 6-7(5), 1-0(10).
A-State dropped a pair of battles against a pair of Big 12 opponents in the second round of doubles. Sara Millard And Carla Muro Castellvi lost an 8-5 decision to Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Maria Santos of Kansas State. Lily Cvanciger And Anna Grigoreva faced fourth-seeded Kansas duo Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren ranked 69e nationally, but dropped an 8-1 decision.
In the second round of singles, Grigoreva fought hard against 11e-ranked Anastasiya Komar of Oklahoma State. She held a 40-15 lead at 4-all in the second set, but ultimately dropped the match to second-seeded Cowgirl.
Muro Castellvi dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Gloriana Nahum of Oklahoma Ariadna Fernandez lost 7-5, 6-3 to Sati Aubakirova of Wichita State. Cvanciger faced another Power Conference opponent in Valeska San Martin Ramirez, Iowa State, but dropped a 6-1, 7-6(4) result.
The Red Wolves continue playing in Memphis on Saturday with three doubles matches and a pair of singles matches.
