Boston College Men's Hockey splits series with MSU, losing in Game 2 by a score of 4-3
The Eagles fell 4-3 tonight to MSU, splitting the series 1-1 to start the 2024-2025 season.
The Spartans scored their first goal of the weekend to take a 1-0 lead midway through the first period despite some great saves from Jacob Fowler early in the game. With exactly 3 minutes left in the period, James Hagens made a great pass to Gabe Perrault to tie the score at 1, and just over a minute later, Ryan Leonard finally broke through to give BC a 2-1 lead.
BC started the second with a 2-1 lead, but State of Michigan tied at 2, just 30 seconds into the period. the Eagles went on the power play a minute later, and with 18 seconds left the man advantage took back the lead with a goal from Lukas Gustafsson.
MSU tied things up at 3-3 with 12:28 left in the second, and with 6:32 left in the second the Spartans took back the lead after dominating the game for a fair chunk of time. Michigan State took that 4-3 lead into intermission and entered the final period of regulation up 1.
The game remained tied at 4-3 as the third period progressed, and with 1:37 left in regulation, BC Fowler pulled for the extra skater. The Eagles failed to tie the score and the game ended 4–3 in favor of the Spartans.
