Hockey India League 2024-25 teams and squads: Get the full list of players
The first day of the Hockey India League 2024-25 At the auction in New Delhi on Sunday, eight men's teams witnessed intense bidding to fill their squads with top quality players.
The Hockey India League (HIL) auctions are held over three days.
With more than 550 gentlemen hockey players up for grabs – 400 Indians and 150 internationals – the first two days are focused on men's teams, while the auction for the women's teams takes place on the last day.
On the first day of the auction, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh emerged as the most sought-after player and was eventually picked up by Punjab franchise Soorma Hockey Club. Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers acquired Abhishek, while UP Rudras added Hardik Singh to the squad.
Amit Rohidas went to Tamil Nadu Dragons and Jugraj Singh to Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers.
Each franchise can field a 24-player team, consisting of a minimum of 16 players Indian hockey players (with a mandatory participation of four junior players) and eight international stars.
The foreign goalkeepers were in high demand: the Irishman David Harte went to Tamil Nadu Dragons, the German Jean-Paul Danneberg to Hyderabad Toofans and the Dutchman Pirmin Blaak to Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers.
Belgian Vincent Vanasch went to Soorma Hockey Club, while Indian Krishan Bahadur Pathak went to Kalinga Lancers.
This returns after seven years and will be the sixth edition of the Hockey India League. The renewed hockey tournament introduces the women's tournament for the first time.
Both the men's and women's competitions will take place simultaneously during the period reserved exclusively for the HIL by the International Hockey Federation (FIH), ensuring the availability of the best foreign players.
The 2024-25 HIL season will be held from December 28 to February 1 and will feature eight men's and six women's teams. The matches will be played at two venues: the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand and the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha.
