Rashad Dockery has found his way into the NCHSAA and South View football record books.
The Tigers' senior running back tied the state record for rushing touchdowns with eight in a 57-0 United 8 Conference win at Gray's Creek. These scores accounted for 48 of South VIew's points, and took Dockery's score for the season to an astonishing 134 points.
He joins five others with a share of the record; Justis Dorsett (North Moore, 2021), Savone Tutt (Pamlico County, 2019), Jo Leake (West Montgomery, 2016), Mike Hill (Harnett Central, 2003) and TJ Logan (Northern Guilford, 2012).
Dockery scored on runs of 4, 61, 18, 2, 1, 10, 24 and 40 yards as South View (6-2, 4-1) remained in the conference hunt, tied with Cape Fear, one game behind No. 1 Seventy -First.
Dockery also ran for 15 first downs and set a single-game program record with 320 yards rushing, almost exactly a year after Christian Rutledge set the high mark with 306 yards in a 62-14 win over the Bears.
Rutledge has moved to Saturday football as a member of the Shaw Bears, but Dockery is still in the midst of South View's second historic season in a row.
After surpassing the 1,000 yards passing mark with two regular season games remaining, Dockery entered Friday's game averaging 162.2 rushing yards per game and ranked 24th in the state in all classifications with 973 rushing yards on the season.
He tied Friday's career-high with 24 carries, averaging 13.3 yards per touch as the team posted 392 total yards, 383 of which came on the ground.
South View's defense put an end to Gray's Creek's wildly successful run game, with the Bears (5-3, 3-2) rushing for 67 yards. That's impressive against a team that averages 39 points, with two running backs putting up over 100 yards per game and another team flirting with 90 yards.
Next week, South View hosts Cape Fear (7-1, 4-1) and Gray's Creek plays at Jack Britt (5-3, 3-2).
