Tennis wins the brown invitation
PROVIDENCE, RI The Rutgers women's tennis team came out on top in the Brown Invitation, defeating host school Brown on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights recorded eight wins, including three doubles and five singles, to earn victory in the finals.
“The entire team showed a lot of mental and physical resilience this weekend,” said the national coach Hilary Ritchie said. “They played confidently and went the extra mile in key areas. They showed real progress and growth.”
Double
In their first doubles match of the season together, Mai Nguyen and Cindy Zoubeat Ali Maguy and Lindsey Hofflander, 6-3.
Naomi Karki And Karina Jumazjanova Sunday was also coupled for the first time this season. They recorded a 6-3 victory over Bella Hu and Hannah Shen.
Minha Kim And Zuzanna Frankowskacontinued to find success together, finishing with Anne Moody and Anne Yang going 6-0. This fall, they have played all but one doubles match together.
Singles
Kim's match against Gabby Soliman went to the extreme. She won the first set 6–1, lost the second set 5–7, but emerged victorious in the super tie-break, 11–9, to win the match.
Jackie Lopez fought Bella Hu and defeated her in three sets: 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.
Zeynep Ilker recorded her second win of the year against Brown's Lindsey Hofflander. Ilker beat her at the Bulldog Invitational in September and had her number again. She defeated Hofflander 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-7 on Sunday.
Frankowska extended her team lead in singles to eight with her victory on Sunday, with a straight-sets victory over Dani Ben-Abraham, 6-4, 6-1.
Karki shutout Anne Moody in the first set before winning 7-5 to take the win.
