Women's tennis ends action at ITA Atlantic Regional
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Old Dominion women's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday afternoon at the ITA Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Virginia, finishing with a singles quarterfinalist and a doubles round of 16.
In singles, Kira Matushkina advanced to the quarterfinals, where she fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to second-seeded Sara Ziodato of Virginia. She had straight wins to advance with victories over Towson's Kiersten Tambe (6-1, 6-0), Virginia Tech's Tara Gorinsek (6-3, 6-1) and Maryland's Diya Challa (6-1, 6 ). -0).
In doubles, the duo of Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Victoria Matasova advanced to the round of 16, where they fell 8-6 to William & Mary's Francesca Davis and Hedda Gurholt. They opened play with an 8-4 win over Jessica Bodwees and Elena Hartley of Loyola (MD) 8-4 and defeated Sofiya Tsitavets and Irena Iurea of Norfolk State 8-1 in the round of 32.
Ulyana Romanova won 4-1 in singles this week, winning two qualifying rounds and her opening match in the main draw. She had wins over Richmond (6-3, 6-2), Georgetown (6-3, 6-3) and Loyola of Maryland (6-1, 6-3) before falling 6-2, 6 to Danielle Hack from Maryland. -4.
Old Dominion will next compete at the ITA Sectionals on November 7-10 in Chapel Hill, NC
