Women's tennis concludes ITA Southeast Regionals Women's tennis Georgia Tech yellow jackets
THE PLAINS Alejandra Cruz And Seen Roach advanced to the doubles quarterfinals at the ITA Southeast Regionals on Saturday as the Yellow Jackets closed out play in the high-caliber tournament. Georgia Tech had three doubles teams compete in the round of 16 on day four of the tournament.
Cruz and Roach faced off against Florida's Talia Neilson-Gatenby and Bente Spee in the round of 16. The Jackets raced away with a 5-1 lead before the Gators pulled away to force a tiebreaker at 7-all. Cruz and Roach dominated the breaker, 7-3, to win the match and advance to the quarterfinals.
The Tech doubles met UCF's Hannah Rylatt and Olivia Lincer in a quarterfinal match but failed to carry momentum in their second match of the day. Claiming an early lead, the Knights held on to earn an 8-1 decision, sealing a berth in the semifinals.
Georgia Tech was also represented in the doubles round of 16 by Kylie Bilchev And Meera Jesudason. The Jackets played together for the first time this fall this weekend and fell behind early against Georgians Aysegul Mert and Guillermina Grant. The Jackets couldn't recover, dropping an 8-2 decision.
Tech's third doubles team was in action on Sunday Scarlett Nicholson And Kate Sharaburawho challenged Malwina Rowinska and Victoria Gomez OHayon (FAU). The opponents held serve early at 2 apiece before the Owls grabbed a break for the advantage. FAU increased its lead and sealed an 8-4 decision.
Georgia Tech returns to action at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Alabama, Nov. 1-2.
