Wembanyama is hungry for more in NBA season No. 2
In the annual NBA.com GM Survey, Spurs center Victor Wembanyama was voted the player best suited to build a franchise around.
Here are some of the awards Victor Wembanyama has received in the past twelve months: theNBA rookie of the yeartrophy, a spot on the All-Rookie team, afirst-team All-Defense selection,three Rookie of the Month awards and most recently an Olympic silver medal.
They are all nice. They are also not enough.
Wembanyama wants more, a lot more, and with France's San Antonio Spurs star about to enter Year 2 of his NBA career after meeting virtually all the high expectations of Year 1, he isn't shy about say he thinks bigger.
It's the same for all my trophies, team trophies or even individual trophies, Wembanyama said. I love them. I really cherish them. But I want all my trophies that I get now to be bricks that I can use to build something great in the future. You know, one rock by itself isn't much. You can get a palace if you collect them.

If San Antonio gets back into the playoff mix this seasonWembanyama will have to be one of the biggest reasons for that. Wembanyama is still officially listed as 7-foot-1 by Spurs – he looks at least an inch taller, even if he says he hasn't grown – Wembanyama knows all eyes will be on him this season, even if there's probably no one in the NBA who does that. can look at him eye to eye. It was yet another reminder that Wembanyama is not on his way to stardom. It's already here, and the Olympics could be a springboard to the next level of stardom.
