Utah Hockey Club introduces youth programs across the state
SALT LAKE CITY In hopes of growing the sport across the state, the Utah Hockey Club has unveiled several programs designed to introduce the game to kids and keep them involved on the ice for years to come.
More than 5,000 children are expected to be involved in the programmes, which will be a mix of free events, youth street competitions and school activities.
The team will host a series of Hockey 101 events to teach children and their families the basics of the sport. The first program for children ages 8 to 14 is scheduled for Saturday at Mountain View Junior High School in West Haven, and parents can CLICK HERE to register their children.
Street hockey leagues will be introduced in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, with the team donating skates, nets, goalie equipment, sticks and balls to get things going. The competitions are open to children between 7 and 18 years old and last a maximum of eight weeks.
A Learn to Play program will begin next year, with Utah Hockey Club players participating in some of the hour-long sessions that teach kids how to play the game. The program costs $250 and each child receives a complete set of hockey gear.
Learn to Play sessions are currently scheduled for Millcreek Common and the Provo Peaks Ice Arena, registration is open HERE.
Finally, next spring, the team will work with physical education teachers in Utah to launch a teacher-led PE curriculum.
