Former Man Utd striker Diego Forlan will make his professional tennis debut at the age of 45
Five years after Diego Forln hung up his football boots, the ex-Manchester United striker has now set his sights on professional tennis.
Forln will make his doubles debut at the Uruguay Open in November. The 45-year-old will compete alongside Federico Coria in the ATP Challenger tournament, the second highest level of tennis competition.
Coria, 32 years old, is currently ranked number 101 in the world in singles. The Argentinian was ranked number 49 in 2023.
Forln played tennis as a teenager and has now returned to the sport in the years following his retirement from football in 2019. He has become a regular competitor at ITF Masters tournaments in his home country, but he will face his biggest challenge yet : taking on Challenger. Level competition next month.

Diego Lpez, the tournament director of the Uruguay Open, is ready to welcome the Uruguayan legend with open arms.
“I have confirmation that he wants to play. He has been preparing for a while and training a lot in tennis,” he said said. “I think he deserves this opportunity and give him this mutual satisfaction. Of course I am talking about our beloved Diego Forln.”
Forln won the Ballon d'Or for his performance at the 2010 World Cup, where he took La Celeste to fourth place. He was the tournament's joint top scorer with five goals. A year later, he bagged a brace against Paraguay in the 2011 Copa Amrica final, leading Uruguay to its then-record 15th Copa Amrica title.
The striker also won the Premier League with Manchester United and the Europa League with Atltico Madrid.
Now, in his second act, the 45-year-old will look to add more silverware to his trophy cabinet, just from another sport.
