The Atlantic hockey game begins when the Falcons visit Army West Point
WALTHAM, Mass. Bentley travels to Army West Point this weekend to play the first Atlantic Hockey games of the 2024-2025 season. Puck drop at Tate Rink is on Friday evening at 7:00 PM and on Saturday the face-off is at 4:00 PM.
The run-up
The Falcons hosted LIU last weekend and tied the first game 1-1 and won the second 3-1.
In Saturday's win Arlo Merritt scored twice and Kellan Hjartarson also scored a goal. Merritt's first goal of the night at 10:39 of the 2i.e period broke a scoreless tie. Hjartarson then scored at 8:06 of the third period for a 2-0 lead, assisted by Ethan Leigh And Jake Black.
After LIU scored a 6-on-4 goal late in the third period, Merritt's second goal of the game at 5:43 ended it.
Max makes his mark
First-year goalkeeper Max Beckford made 21 saves Saturday to earn the victory in his first NCAA start. From London, Ontario, Beckford made ten saves in the first period, five in the second and six in the third frame.
Series of comments
The Bentley-Army series dates back to 1981-82 and the Black Knights are the Falcons' most played opponent with 86 games. Holy Cross and Sacred Heart are close behind with 84 games.
The series couldn't be much closer, with Army leading by one game at 36-35-15.
The teams played three times last season and Bentley won two of the three, including the lone game at West Point, 5-2 on Jan. 2. In that match five different players scored and Connor Hasley made 23 saves for the win.
The teams then split a series in Waltham on February 2–3, with Bentley winning the first game 4–2 and Army winning the second 2–1.
Bentley and Army meet again later this season on February 4 in Waltham.
Next
The Falcons have a home-and-home series with Sacred Heart from Nov. 1-2. The series opener will be at Bentley Arena before the teams take the ice at Martire Family Arena for the second game.
