Central Catholic St. Thomas Aquinas High School football score updates

All the Central Catholic Crusaders are hoping for now is confirmation that they can begin preparing for the second season of high school football.
The signs appear favorable that head coach Jeff Lindesmith's team will play on after Thursday night's 54-7 win over rival St. Thomas Aquinas. The Crusaders entered Week 10 ranked 13th in Division V, Region 17. They will be big fans of teams like Alliance, Salem and Mogadore in the coming days.
Most importantly, the Crusaders have given themselves a chance to extend their season after a rocky start. They lost their first three games before winning five of their last seven.
“That's a pretty good run for us,” Lindesmith said.
For Central, progress throughout the year was paramount.
“We've always tried to talk about the goals we set during the season, and one goal is to get better every week,” Lindesmith said. “These kids have gotten better every week.”
The turnaround of the defense was the most striking. The Crusaders allowed 139 points during their season-opening three-game losing streak. Over the last seven games, they have held three opponents to just one touchdown.
“We changed the defense,” linebacker John Hofacre said. “Instead of using our normal 'Crusader' and 'Bulldog' we switched to our 'Wildcat' defense like we did last year. Instead of four downlinemen we have three, so it's more of a 3 -4. That seems to help a lot.
“The defense just took such a big step forward. From the defensive backs, linebackers, all the way down the line.”
Central's defense set the tone against Aquinas. Interceptions by Carter Company, Tyler Cook and Braylwyntafellion set up touchdowns to help Central take a 48-0 lead at halftime.
Hofacre even found its way to the end zone. He had a 40-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the first half.
“I always dreamed of that,” Hofacre said. “I waited for a touchdown. It was my first ever.”
Conner Thomas ran for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass from backup quarterback Brock Bourquin. Luke Spittler ran for two touchdowns. Starting quarterback Louis DiRuzza also ran for a touchdown.
DJ Cross scored the only touchdown of the game for the Knights, who finished 1-9.

The interception of Carter Company allowed Central Catholic to quickly return to business. On the next play, quarterback Louis DiRuzza scored on a 17-yard run to give the Crusaders a 13–0 lead.

What's at stake for the Central Catholic and St. Thomas Aquinas football teams?
The Crusaders are hoping a win will be enough to help them clinch a spot in the Division V playoffs. They enter Week 13 in Region 17. The top 16 qualify.
Central is trying to make the playoffs after starting the season with three straight losses. The Crusaders won four of five before losing 31-12 to undefeated Mentor Lake Catholic last week.
Despite their record, the Knights still have an outside shot at a playoff berth in Division VI. They need to beat Central and get some help to have a chance at a spot in Region 21.
Aquinas has been outscored 88-7 in two games since its 32-game losing streak ended.

Central has won three straight leads in the all-time 39-18-1 series. Aquino's 2020 win was the Knights' last regular-season victory before beating Crestline in Week 8.
