Winners of the Windrush Legacy 76 event poster competition
As part of the Windrush Legacy 76 event, SCF this season encouraged wider community engagement around the Windrush story and wider community connections.
e Caribbean. SCF provided over a hundred primary schools with access to an assembly/PHSE resource pack and the opportunity to take part in a Windrush poster competition.
SCF congratulates Sanford Primary School (Hasting class), Winscombe for submitting the winning entries.
Mrs Momber-Blake's class teacher said Hasting Class spent the summer term learning about Bristol's role in the transatlantic slave trade and the lessons the city learned. During this topic they will also learn about the places in the Caribbean and the legacy of Windrush. The resources and competition run by the Somerset Cricket Foundation have really enhanced the children's learning and allowed them to make links with other areas of their learning (quite a few of the children in the class are Somerset fans). This meant they could see how the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade and Windrush still impacts life today, rather than just being something that happened in the past.
Scott Chappell SCF Schools and Coaching Manager would like to extend his congratulations to Sandford Primary School for taking part in this competition. The school also receives a cricket bag.
In addition, more than a hundred flyers were distributed to young people at the SCCC Family Day to involve them in a Master Blaster Sir Viv T-shirt design competition. In recognition of Sir Vivian Richards' legendary status. SCF congratulates Isobell from Shipham near Cheddar on her winning design. She wins a signed SCCC shirt. We were delighted to meet Isobel and her family on Vitality Cup Finals Day in Birmingham to make the handover. Isobel's mother Sarah said she really enjoyed designing the shirt. Mustafa from SCF was very impressed with the way she incorporated the Antiguan flag and the Somerset Wyvern and the text Master Blaster and Richards into her design.
