Little Quips go to court after being voted out of the youth football league
ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (KDKA) – The Aliquippa Little Quips youth football program took to the court Friday to try to rejoin the Beaver County Youth Football League.
After the other teams voted off the Little Quips following a parental dispute last weekend, the program hoped a court order would help reinstate the team just before the playoffs. But the president of the court denied the order.
It was announced on Friday afternoon that the court had rejected the request, which meant that the more than a hundred players and cheerleaders would not play this weekend.
“I don't want to say they're taking things out on us, but it seems that way to us,” said Aliquippa entrepreneur Gerode Carry.
Carry operates a community center in Aliquippa and is a strong supporter of the Little Quips program. He said the kicking of the team was not about alleged parental violence during games or even allegations that the Little Quips failed to file proper birth certificates, report cards and residency requirements.
“One little incident happened and they decided to remove our teams from the competition,” Carry said. “But there have been incidents in other places, and it hasn't been the same outcome.”
Carry had planned a party Friday to celebrate the seniors of the Aliquippa High School football team and support the Little Quips, but the party was canceled.
To outsiders, this may seem trivial. But this is more than just kids throwing around pigskin.
“We take it seriously at every level. From the little kids all the way up. We're going to stand behind them,” Carry said.
KDKA-TV reached out to the Beaver County Youth Football League on Friday but did not hear back.
