Muskingum Valley High School Football Scores, Week 10 Live Updates
McCONNELSVILLE Brylee Shannon's extra point after Tanner Bankes' 4-yard touchdown run with 8:28 to go proved to be the difference as host Morgan earned its second win of the season with a 14-13 upset of Philo in a Muskingum Valley League-Big School Division win at Raider Stadium.
The loss was costly for the Electrics, who clinched a playoff spot in Division IV Region 15 last week but saw their chances of hosting a first-round game extinguished by the loss.
Philo (6-4) took a 7-0 lead with 5:49 left before halftime with a 14-play, 72-yard scoring drive, capped by Talon Preston' 10-yard touchdown run.
Morgan (2-8) answered with an eight-play, 70-yard scoring drive to tie the game at 7-7 after Haiden Pauley found Hayden Bankes for a 16-yard touchdown catch.
Philo scored again when Jack Lincicome hauled in a 5-yard keeper for a score with 1:13 left before halftime, but the extra point failed.
Philo held a 258-219 lead overall while Preston ran 25 times for 168 yards, but the Electrics were just 2 of 5 on fourth-down conversions and lost a fumble.
Pauley went 7-for-11 passing for 75 yards, while the Raiders ran 25 times for 144 yards, while Tanner Bankes rushed 16 times for 119, including a 62-yarder. Bankes had 51 yards receiving.
New Lexington 36, Sheridan 10: Senior receiver Bentley Hanson caught seven passes for 175 yards and caught three of Isaiah Stephens' five touchdown strikes as the Panthers scored 28 unanswered points in an MVL crossover win at the Paul Culver Jr. Stage.
The win was New Lex's first against the Generals since 2013, snapping a 10-game losing streak. The nine regular-season wins are the most since a 9-1 season in 2008, when the Panthers won a regional title.
Stephens hit 20 of 25 passes for 298 yards and four scores as the Panthers held a 377-191 advantage in total yards and held Sheridan (6-4) without scores inside the red zone three times.
Hanson hauled in a 42-yard flea flicker from quarterback Isaiah Stephens on the first drive, setting up a 14-yard scoring throw for Talon Schwendeman. The two-point conversion made it 8-0.
Trailing 10-8 after Logan Russell's 8-yard scoring run with 3:11 left before halftime, Hanson struck again when he slid behind the secondary for a 65-yarder to give New Lex the lead for good at 16-10.
But the biggest play came soon after, when Owen O'Brien stepped in front of a Tyce Whiteman pass at midfield, leading to Schwendeman's seven-yard catch in the end zone with 21 seconds left in the half.
Hanson had catches of 23 and 15 yards in the second half, while the Generals failed to score on two trips to the red zone.
