Sibu Table Tennis Association is considering a veterans tournament every three months

SIBU (November 13): Chua King Hua won the title for the Men's 45 and above category in the 2024 Sibu Veterans Table Tennis Championships this weekend. In second place was Paul Lim, followed by joint third Zulkifil and Samuel Revales

Top man in the Men 55 and above was Sim Kah Pin, followed by John Loh and joint third Lee Kwong Lee and Tiong Yong Kiong.

Tiong Kieu Hee became champion among women 40 years and older, followed by Lee Ah Bee and the joint third Tan Pei Shih and Ling Sui Hiong.

Organized by Sibu Table Tennis Association (STTA), the tournament attracted more than 10 players from each of the three categories.

In his closing remarks, STTA Chairman Dr. Clement Cheng proposed that the event would take place every three months.

He noted that it served to keep players fit and healthy.

Several players are already in their 70s and have managed to beat their younger opponents in their 50s and this is truly something worth cherishing, he exclaimed.

The participation of non-Chinese players was also praised.

Table tennis is a sport for all races and the large number of non-Chinese participants in the competition speaks volumes about the importance of sport as a leading factor in strengthening closer relations between different races, Cheng added.
