Foster announces 2025 women's tennis spring campaign
WICHITA, Kan. Head women's tennis coach at Wichita State Colin Foster announced the double competition list for 2025 on Wednesday afternoon.
The year will be another challenging series for the Black and Yellows, but Coach Foster is confident his group is up to the challenge.
“This schedule was built to test us,” Foster said. “Being challenged is what we play for. We are going to be challenged, but this schedule has the right balance between the teams we have to play against to grow and have ranking opportunities.”
The Shockers will face 20 opponents in the regular season, seven of which will be power four opponents.
Tennis teams in the American Athletic Conference will not play a set dual match schedule, but the Shockers will still face six of the conference's possible thirteen opponents in the regular season (Memphis, Tulsa, Tulane, South Florida, UTSA and North Texas ). )
Of the 20 Shocker opponents, eight were ranked in last season's final ITA top 75 poll on June 10. (Oklahoma, Kansas, Memphis, Iowa, Princeton, South Florida, SMU and Kansas State)
As for the roster, Coach Foster believes all eight of his players will make a leap in skill compared to their individual numbers from last season.
“Our staff expects everyone to make leaps and bounds in their abilities,” Foster said. “Everyone on this team has gotten a lot better this fall and they all have an opportunity to take that next step. The environment and culture that this team has created and embraced this fall has created a really good environment to grow and develop to develop.”
Foster expects his team to be deep, with contributions across the lineup in dual matches.
“Everyone on this team contributes,” Foster said. “We won't have to rely on a small handful of players to score. I think we will have a team that, no matter who is in each position, will be confident, capable and give us a chance to get points.”
After earning their first AAC Championship win since 2019 last year, Foster and Company have raised expectations for this year's group.
“We set a goal this year as a team to compete for a conference championship,” Foster said. “We have made every preparation to make it a very special year and a year with an important postseason period.”
