Splits define BSU men's hockey in CCHA play so far
Bemidji State men's hockey continues to receive votes in both the USA Hockey and USCHO polls after splitting last weekend's road games at Lake Superior State. The Beavers came into the weekend on a high, winning 4-2 on Friday night to extend their undefeated streak to six games, but fell 4-3 to the Lakers on Saturday.
The split is becoming a trend for BSU in conference play, where they have split three of their four CCHA series this season, with their lone series win coming at home in a five-point weekend against St. Thomas. That's something the Beavs would like to change when they host Michigan Tech this weekend.
“It's been hard for us to get traction, and it's getting to the point now where you can see the separation in our league where I'll use Mankato, I mean Mankato is already at a point where they're right now it's going to be hard to catch them,” head coach Tom Serratore said during a press conference this week. “Michigan Tech has obviously been a team that has been a bit divisive in the first half as well.”
“It's always fun to play against Michigan Tech,” sophomore forward Kasper Magnussen said. “I think it's a great series and I think they are very good defensively. For example, there won't be many goals. They play hard and they are a good team. So I mean, it's just going to be a good one, I think we just have to be ready for it.
Based on points percentage (since Augustana just joined the league and doesn't have as many league games), Bemidji State is currently fifth in the standings heading into the weekend.
