Hello and welcome to live coverage of the first day of the third Test between Australia and India. The scene is set for a thriller after a couple of thrashings went either way as the tourists took an early lead in the series in Perth then Australia bounced back in Adelaide.

Both sides have a history of success in Brisbane, where the third Test will be played at the Gabba. Australia did not lose at their home fortress for more than 30 years until stunned by an injury-plagued India the last time they met here. A loss to West Indies earlier this year was even more of a shock.

Josh Hazlewood will be a welcome addition to the Australia XI at a venue where his natural bounce can turn into a weapon. Scott Boland is the unfortunate pace bowler to make way, as he has so many times before, despite taking five wickets in the win at the Adelaide Oval. While Australia will have their full array of quicks, their batting remains the concern and all eyes will be on Steve Smith as the No 4 has his latest shot at breaking out of a form slump.

India are in a similar position with their attack centred around the at-times unplayable Jasprit Bumrah. The 31-year-old is under an injury cloud after suffering groin soreness in Adelaide but is expect to be named in Brisbane. The tourists batting lineup has been feast or famine with captain Rohit Sharma standing out as the player most in need of runs, perhaps from his more familiar role at the top of the order.

Important events
A timely email from Tim Thomas quickly revealed the positive side of this rain delay.
A bit of a damp, wet weekend ahead in Brisbane might help the game, but I'm not sure which team that would favor. The grounds crew will certainly have their work cut out for them. Fancy a more traditional battle!
6th over: Australia 19-0 (Khawaja 13, McSweeney 2) The covers are on! Siraj fields three deliveries to McSweeney, and the right-hander drives a defensive shot to middle for a quick single. Khawaja is slow off target to briefly put Australian hearts in their mouths, but is over the line by the time the throw drops. India may not mind regrouping as the first half hour favored the Australian openers.
5th over: Australia 18-0 (Khawaja 13, McSweeney 1) Bumrah to Khawaja again as the left-hander has faced all the deliveries from the India strike bowlers so far. The southpaw was quite comfortable, with Bumrah perhaps missing a bit of zip. Khawaja works the ball cleanly off his pads, as he tends to do, and looks around as best you can for four.
We have some initial thoughts as excitement builds around a series that has lived up to sky-high expectations so far.
Borisfeigin has been in touch with Bluesky to say: We are once again observing the power of Test cricket. People will remember what happened last time and what probably happens in this game for a long time, possibly decades. Meanwhile, without Google, can anyone remember what happened in last year's BBL final?
Captains visit and decide to go bowling at the Gabba. Usually a brave call (in Sir Humphrey's sense), but the field looks quite lush.
The BBL season starts this weekend and is always a fun part of the Australian summer, but I understand your drift-borisfeigin.
4th over: Australia 14-0 (Khawaja 9, McSweeney 1) McSweeney pushes his pads off for a quick single off the first delivery as Australia rotates the strike for the first time. Khawaja picks up a couple with fine leg as Siraj floats onto his pads, before the left-hander punishes a shorter ball with a sublime pull shot for four through midwicket. It was a positive start for Australia and India, who asked to check whether the ball goes through the rings without any problems.
3rd over: Australia 6-0 (Khawaja 2, McSweeney 0) Bumrah continues around the wicket to Khawaja and beats the bat with a delivery that drifts away from the southpaw late on. That's the first time Bumrah has been able to get a bit of juice out of it as he looks a little off top pace. Khawaja plays off his pads and takes a couple of runs through midwicket, the first this morning.
2nd over: Australia 4-0 (Khawaja 0, McSweeney 0) Siraj against McSweeney and the India Quick are straight to work well outside. There is not much movement for Siraj and the third gamer is unconcerned. Virgo beyond.
1st over: Australia 4-0 (Khawaja 0, McSweeney 0) Bumrah has completely cramped Khawaja from the second delivery with a lot of movement by taking the ball over the left-hander. But the delivery misses the edge and hits Khawaja's thigh. On the next delivery, four runs come off the thigh pad as Khawaja looks to play with his leg.
The anthems are complete, Jasprit Bumrah has the icing on the cake, Usman Khawaja takes two centers and was ready to play.
India XI
India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), Rohit Sharma (captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep.
A few changes for the tourists with their third spinner selected in as many Tests, this time selecting Jadeja instead of Ashwin. Akash Deep is also recalled.
Australia XI
Australia: Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (captain), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
As revealed yesterday, Hazlewood has proven his fitness after sitting out the second Test due to a side strain. Scott Boland is left out in the only change to the 10-wicket side that won at the Adelaide Oval.
Pat Cummins plays his cards close to his chest when asked what he would have done if Australia had won the toss. That says as much as anything, but here's more from the Australian skipper.
It's been a fantastic series so far. I think we're having a sale at the Gabba today. I'm sure it will be lively there.
Just about everyone got into the series and… now here at the Gabba, a place we love to play. It was a good introduction.
India wins the toss and chooses to field
Rohit Sharma correctly calls heads and chooses to bowl first.
A bit cloudy. A bit of grass and looks soft. We want to try to make the best possible use of the circumstances and see what we can do with the ball up front.
As the game progresses, your hitting becomes better and better. But we want to try to make the best possible use of the circumstances in advance.
There is a lovely green tinge on top of the pitch, which is one of the few remaining natural decks, rather than drop-in wickets, in international cricket. There is some cloud above us and there is a small chance of showers with a forecast high of 29. The captains are in the middle for the toss.
Travis Head is an Australian batsman who has disappointed at the Gabba in recent times, with a pair of golden ducks in the Test against the West Indies earlier this. That followed a 92 and another first-ball duck when Australia faced South Africa in late 2022, meaning the right-hander was dismissed off his last four balls in the Brisbane Tests.
But the middle-order powerhouse is in strong form in this third Test after making 140 against India in his hometown of Adelaide last week. Chief and India pacer Mohammed Siraj had some nice words with each other as the rivalry and tension surrounding a tight series started to bubble away. The ICC was not impressed.
Australia were unbeaten at the Gabba in 31 Tests between 1989 and 2021, when India upset the hosts with a three-wicket win to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-1 series win. Geoff Lemon has looked at how the Gabba has changed over time, and the recent shifts that could help Australia rebuild their dominance at the venue.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
