NEW DELHI: Rishabh Pant etched his name in cricket folklore with his remarkable innings during India's historic win at the Gabba in January 2021. Speaking to Ravi Shastri ahead of the Brisbane Test, Pant said he had spoken to his doctors and ensured he could be fully fit as he always wanted to continue participating in Tests for India.
“It's amazing, when I walked into (The Gabba) I got a positive feeling. It gives a positive attitude and confidence in a series where things are equal, it makes you want to do well. Playing the situation has been a learning experience for me, Saving the team from a difficult situation. Sometimes it is difficult, but most of the time I have to keep telling myself to think positive,” said Pant.
“There are easy ways to do it, but that's where I put my foot down and keep doing the same thing that has brought me a lot of success. I generally don't practice such (unorthodox sweep and scoop) shots, it's a game plan according to the bowlers because it is not always easy just defending the ball. My mindset tells me it is safer, I always play percentage cricket,” he said.
“(Wicketkeeping after his accident) It was definitely one of the most challenging parts, but I worked with all the doctors to make sure I was fully fit, I always wanted to keep that. The ball travels a lot more (in Australia), that It's something you have to look for. It takes away from the wicket a little bit, but that's part of the game,” said the wicketkeeper-batsman.
