North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club wins Sportscotland Award
The local group claimed a major win at the Scottish Sport Awards earlier this month to claim the 2024 club prize.
The group were recognized alongside some of the country's top athletes and organizations at the event which aims to honor their achievements and contribution to Scottish sport.
The Club Sports Award aims to showcase the very best community clubs across all sports in the country.
NATTC was awarded the crown after being selected above fellow nominees Carrick Rugby Club and Passion4Fusion.
It sparked emotional celebrations among club members who attended the awards ceremony at the Glasgow Science Center and IMAX on Wednesday, December 4.
That was especially the case for club founders, father and son duo Billy and Chris Main.
The pair launched the club exactly twenty years ago, which started as a dream, and has since seen the club grow into Scotland's largest and most successful table tennis club.
In a special video made for the awards, Chris explained: “We took up table tennis during a year's holiday and have never stopped playing since.
“We came back, found a senior club, my friends came and it started to get a bit busy.
“My dad thought we might start our own club, and we did. It went from a one-table venue to 15 to 20 tables, playing five nights a week at eight venues.”
The Sportscotland video also featured a number of other moving testimonials from club members – ranging from seven to 92 years old.
The club's success was also heralded by Table Tennis Scotland, who praised the club for growing the sport in the country.

“This award is a well-deserved recognition of the dedication and countless hours contributed by the club's volunteers and coaches, whose passion has played a significant role in the club's growth and success.”
