The North Branch girls tennis team continues its season but has faced some tough opponents in its schedule.
On September 11, the team lost 7-0 to St. Francis.
Alyssa Nordberg had the best day for a Viking player, winning her first set at third singles before falling 6-1, 1-6, 3-6.
Two days later, Spring Lake Park shutout the Vikings 7-0.
Gabby Ruddy had a strong start at first singles, according to coach Tom McLaughlin, winning the first three matches before falling 3-6, 1-6. Nordberg won her first set in the third singles match before falling 7-5, 3-6, 4-6.
The team then competed in the Blaine tournament this weekend and McLaughlin had his players put together their own lineup for a 6-1 loss to the home team.
The girls set their own lineups for this match, McLaughlin said, giving themselves the opportunity to play different positions and with different partners.
Alexis Ferguson and AlexAnn Koecher won at second doubles, while Janice Elkerton had a good performance at first singles. McLaughlin noted that Britta Anderson also played well at second singles.
Elkerton and Christina Gamer won 6-4, 6-1 at second doubles in the team's second match, a 6-1 loss to Rogers. Anderson played well at second singles, as did Nordberg at number three.
The day ended with a 7-0 loss to Princeton, with Koecher and Gamer taking their second doubles match to three sets before falling 1-6, 7-5, 5-7.
