Shakib Al Hasan is banned from bowling in domestic and international cricket; setback for Bangladesh before CT 2025
Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from bowling in competitions sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The development comes after the Bangladesh all-rounder was banned by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for an illegal bowling action. The ban comes at a crucial time for Bangladesh as the country prepares for the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled for February next year.
The development of Shakib's ban on bowling in international and domestic matches was confirmed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It said that the star all-rounder will soon take the bowling reassessment test.
“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been informed that national team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended for bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). As a result, Shakib has also been suspended for bowling in domestic cricket competitions outside Bangladesh and in international cricket,” a BCB statement said.
Should the results of this (reassessment) analysis clarify his action, Shakib will be allowed to bowl in international cricket and in domestic cricket competitions under the jurisdiction of all national cricket federations, it added. Despite the ban, Shakib is eligible to play matches although he can bat and field but not bowl.

The year 2024 has not gone well for Shakib. His international career took a different turn after his political involvement as a Member of Parliament for the Awami League government. Unfortunately, the political party has recently been dissolved.
Shakib has announced his retirement from T20Is and stated that the Dhaka Test next year will be his last. The 37-year-old was overlooked in Bangladesh's recent matches against Afghanistan and West Indies. He is currently playing in the Lanka T10 League for Galle Marvels.
