Men's tennis preparations for an intensely challenging spring slate
Saint Joseph's Men's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Puhan has announced a challenging spring schedule for the Hawks, with a number of games against top competition and seven games against Atlantic 10 opposition.
“This season I wanted to challenge this young and talented team,” Puhan said. “We will compete against 10 schools that made the NCAA tournament last season and seven nationally ranked programs, including schools from the ACC, Big Ten and Ivy League.”
The Hawks kick off the spring semester with a trip to Northwestern, Illinois State and Notre Dame Jan. 17-19, which may be the most challenging three-game series in program history.
Saint Joseph's returns to Philadelphia for a home match against Temple at the Springton Tennis Club before visiting Penn and Drexel to close out January. February starts with games at Navy and Monmouth before a trip to Penn State on February 8.
The Hawks will visit Bucknell on Feb. 23 for a home game against conference foe Duquesne on campus and a game at Princeton, both on March 2; the team then heads to Boca Raton, Florida, for a spring break training trip.
Match play begins again on March 15 with games against Coppin State and Le Moyne before a trip to Georgetown a week later. After a home game against Rider, the Hawks close out March with a pair of conference foes in St. Bonaventure and Dayton away from home.
A rivalry game with Villanova begins in April, followed by trips to George Mason and St. John's. The Hawks will then host NJIT before visiting VCU and Richmond and then close out the regular season at home against Fordham on April 19.
The Atlantic 10 Championship will once again take place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, April 23-26. The Hawks will look to use the previous three months of games to prepare for a long run.
