PhotoFest Rewind: State Tennis Tournament

The State Tennis Tournament was held all over Gillette in late September with decent weather conditions allowing the tournament to be held outdoors. The state championship games were held at Campbell County High School and in the team standings, Cheyenne Central topped the podium with 41 points, Sheridan 2nd with 29 and Cody 3rd with 26.

Individually, Laramie's Paulo Mellizo won the No. 1 singles championship with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Cheyenne Central's Colin Crecelius. Campbell County's Rylan Robertson captured the #2 singles title with a straight-set victory over Natrona's Grayson Ingram 6-4, 6-1. The Kelly Walsh duo of Gage Christensen and Miles Romer took home first place hardware in #2 doubles with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Cheyenne Central's Matthew Klaassen and Owen Black. Jaeger Conrads and Tanner Hamrick of Sheridan won the #2 Double Crown with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jackson Moore and Carter Rogers of Thunder Basin. In the third doubles spot, Cheyenne Central's Zeman Collins and Andrew Lance defeated Sheridan's Matt Brown and Drew Miller for the title 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

On the girls side, Hailey Mathis-Brietkoph of Cheyenne Central capped off a fantastic season with a straight-set victory over Caroline Brokaw of Jackson to take the top of the podium in the #1 singles event. Central's Cailyn Smedley prevailed over Jackson's Rosey Jones for the #2 singles championship 6-1, 6-0. Natalie Wenke and Alyssa Despain of Cody won the state championship in #1 doubles when they defeated Eva Gorsuch and Olivia Katschke of Thunder Basin 6-3, 6-3. Quincy Dereemer and Rachel Gertsch of Cheyenne Central won the #2 doubles title with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Lauren Bradfield and Hailey Larsen of Kelly Walsh. KW's #3 Doubles team of Clarabelle Ramsey and Whitney Bradfield defeated Cheyenne Central's Lucia Shoemaker and Zuri Sanders 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in the final.
