Minot State men's hockey adds Slade Stanick for the second semester
MIOT, ND The Minot State men's hockey team is taking a few weeks off for the holidays, but when the 2i.e-ranked Beavers return to the ice and are joined by a new addition.
Minot State head coach Wyatt Waselenchuk is pleased to announce that dynamic scorer Slade Stanick will join the team when the Beavers take the ice at Maysa Arena on Saturday and Sunday, January 4-5, to host No. 17 Midland.
“We are excited to add Slade to our group,” said Waselenchuk. “Slade was a target this summer that we ultimately didn't have room for; we knew a lot of other schools were interested, so in his best interest we thought it would be best to look at those other programs. We only graduated one forward, so we didn't have much room in the front.”
Stanick led the Portage Terriers in scoring during the 2023-2024 season and was 16e overall in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in 51 regular season games. Over the past two seasons with the Terriers, Stanick scored 34 goals and 59 assists in 111 games, including 15 playoff games. He added 9 goals and 9 assists in his debut season in the MJHL in 2021-2022, playing 21 games each with Portage and the Dauphin Kings.
“I am so excited to join the Minot State hockey program,” said Stanick, who plans to pursue a degree in science and become a chiropractor. “After playing in the MJHL, it is a natural fit for me to continue playing the game I love and join many of the past players I have played with and against. As an experienced two-way player, I look I look forward to taking my game to the next level to help the team win a championship.

Stanick adds another potent offensive weapon to a balanced Beavers team with an overall record of 18-4-1 led by Joey Moffatt And Colby Joseph with 12 goals each, and Reid Arnold with 11, while Jay Buchholz leads Minot State with 22 points (8 goals, 14 assists).
“Slade continued to insist he wanted to be a Beaver,” the Minot State coach added. “We have a little motto here: if you work hard and do things the right way, opportunities will arise. This is a perfect example of that; we have lost three original players that we expected to be in our line-up during the first half, and when one left the team, a spot opened up.
“We reconnected and the rest is history,” Waselenchuk said. “Slade competes incredibly hard, and his numbers over the course of three seasons in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League speak for themselves.
