Grandson of tennis legend Bobby Riggs arrested in Broward on child exploitation charges
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. A South Florida tennis coach who is the grandson of tennis legend Bobby Riggs was arrested Tuesday in Broward County on charges of enticing a minor and producing child pornography, authorities announced Wednesday.

Danny Riggs, 31, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service at the Lauderdale Tennis Club, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice. and made his first court appearance in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday.
Profiles of Cornell And Lynn universities identify Riggs, whose full name is Daniel James Riggs, as the grandson of former world champion Bobby Riggs, known for his famous Battle of the Sexes against fellow legend Billie Jean King in 1973.
According to a criminal complaint, Riggs began having sexual conversations with a girl over social media while he was her tennis coach. The complaint states that he became her tennis coach in 2020, when she was 15.
In addition, Riggs allegedly sexually assaulted the minor victim while they traveled internationally and domestically for tennis practices and tournaments, according to a Department of Justice news release. The abuse continued locally in the Southern District of Florida.
Prosecutors say Riggs also solicited child sexual abuse material from the victim via Snapchat and created multiple anonymous profiles in an attempt to mask his identity.
Authorities said he also instructed the victim to occasionally delete their conversations.
The sexual nature of the relationship is said to have escalated over time and also included viewing pornography together.
At one point, Riggs told the victim to stop the relationship, according to the complaint.
On another occasion in Brazil, child victim No. 1 went to Riggs' room. There, Riggs informed Minor Victim 1 that he thought they should not do this anymore (referring to performing sexual acts) because of the possible consequences, it states.
According to the complaint, a possible second victim, a 16-year-old girl, was identified through social media data.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Riggs was being held at the Broward Main Jail without bond.
Anyone with information regarding the alleged child sexual exploitation/abuse allegations against Riggs is asked to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Riggs has a pretrial detention hearing scheduled for December 23 at 11 a.m
