Muchova, Rublev and Nishikori seal victory for Team Michael Chang on Christmas Day
The 2024 Macau Tennis Masters concluded on Christmas Day, with Karolina Muchova, Andrey Rublev and Kei Nishikori emerging victorious on the final day over Xinyu Wang, Casper Ruud and Juncheng Shang for their team captains.
They were split into two teams, with Michael Chang supported by Muchova, who showed impressive form this week, and Rublev, who came straight from the World Tennis League, where he sealed the title.
It's more glory for Rublev. He played with Muchova on the opening day in a well-received doubles match before defeating Juncheng Shang. He competed in the Captains Challenge, where Li Na and Michael Chang play with the pros to start.
But on the final day he defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 7-5. Only one break for both in each set and it was a match with a lot of friendship between the two, as Rublev sealed another victory.
While Muchova faced off against Xinyu Wang and continued on social media with fans of the Czech star already making bold predictions about the Australian Open.
But this helped them on their way with the last game essentially a dead rubber but one that finally saw joy for Juncheng Shang although he was fantastic in the last game to top it off as he cruised past Kei Nishikori 6-3 , 6-4.
Shang was poor at the ATP Next Gen Finals last week, so it will take some confidence to return to prominence. Although Michael Chang's team remained undefeated, they sealed the victory.
Definitely a good confidence boost ahead of the new season, especially for Muchova and Rublev, who shone these two days. Most of those involved now move on to the United Cup or various tournaments in Australia and New Zealand, which in this case fly directly from Macau.
