Colorado State football erupted in the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl
TUCSON, Ariz. A total disappointment.
The Colorado State football team had talked a lot about the importance of making and winning a bowl game, but the Rams delivered a poor performance in front of a large Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl crowd.
Miami (Ohio) took advantage of frequent CSU mistakes to win the 2024 Arizona Bowl 43-17.
Here are takeaways from the game.
The Colorado State football team is missing the moment
This was a stage that CSU fans and the administration have been seeking for years.
CSU hadn't played in a bowl in seven years. The Rams have been desperate to make the football program more relevant.
It came with this bowl. Snoop Dogg is an icon and the first year he sponsored the Arizona Bowl generated a lot of interest and intrigue.
It was a surreal show, with Snoop stopping by the team's locker rooms before the game. Social media was full of photos of Snoop and CSU.
It was a huge crowd for a mid-range bowl (advertised at just over 40,000). The Rams sold out their allotted tickets several times.
And the team failed to meet the moment.
One game in a weird bowl season won't determine the future of the program (good or bad outcome), but this was a great opportunity to take momentum and pour gasoline on it.
This was a fire extinguisher instead.
So many CSU fans were ready for this. The pep rally the night before was electric. Wall to wall with CSU fans celebrating the program's return to relevance.
Now many of the familiar questions will resurface about the team under Jay Norvell.
Is this program really heading in the direction needed to prepare for the move to the Pac-12 in 2026? Eight wins can't be ignored, but the huge disappointments in big games (highlighted by the bowl and the game against Colorado) are major red flags.
Familiar concerns haunt CSU again
Norvell repeatedly said the Rams had to play clean to beat Miami.
CSU turned the ball over four times, plus two turnovers on downs (which do not count as official turnovers).
They were also expensive. Three times Miami initiated drives into CSU territory after a turnover and the RedHawks scored 19 points on them.

The offense was bad almost the entire time. Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi was inconsistent in the air, with a poor pick in the arms of a defensive lineman in the first half being costly.
He also had some excellent throws, which continued to emphasize the up-and-down nature of his game.
The Rams need to figure out what the offense is all about. The 2024 edition was not good enough.
CSU (8-5) had a terrible second half. Miami (10-5) led only 9-3 at halftime, but put up 76 yards in six plays in the third quarter to set the tone.
Miami scored touchdowns on the first three drives of the second half. The RedHawks scored 34 points in the second half and had 271 yards of offense in the second half. Miami ran for over 200 yards on the ground, including a 97-yard touchdown run to set an Arizona Bowl record.
Bowl woes in Colorado States continue
CSU hadn't made a bowl since 2017. The Rams haven't won a bowl since 2013.
Both are pretty stunning statistics that highlight the long-standing problems facing CSU football.
The Rams are now 6-12 all-time in bowl games.
Again, with a move to the Pac-12 on the horizon, these are the types of numbers CSU needs to start changing.
It won't take that long for a major program to return to the postseason and a major program to win in the postseason.
