BSU Men's Hockey begins the second half of the 2024-25 season at home against Rival UMD
The Bemidji State men's hockey team is back on the ice after a 17-day vacation for a New Year's Eve battle with rival Minnesota Duluth. The Beavers defeated the Bulldogs 4-3 in overtime on the road to open the season and now get to open the second half of the season with a rematch at the Sanford Center.
BSU finished the first half with an 8-8-3 record and currently sits 6th in the CCHA standings. Although there is still plenty of hockey to be played, there is a sense of urgency among the Beavers to find rhythm in the new year.
“We're not panicking right now where we are in the standings and we're kind of in control of our own destiny,” senior forward and captain Jackson Jutting said. “We still have a lot of games to go, but we also have to understand the importance of every game we play and hopefully that translates into a top position here in the league.”
“I don't really look at us in the standings,” head coach Tom Serratore said. “I just look at our rankings and we have everything in percentages now, and that's the only time I don't go online and look at these things. I just don't! I don't know who leads our league in scoring. I couldn't tell you. But when I look at the standings, I know where we are, and I know we still have quite a few games left in the second half of the year.”

The Beavers were winless in seven straight games against the Bulldogs until the win on October 5 to start the year. On Tuesday, BSU will get a chance to sweep the rivalry series for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
Following their New Year's Eve game, BSU will play Manitoba at home on Friday, January 3 in their final exhibition game of the season.
