Moorhead boys hockey team rises to No. 1 in Minnesota – InForum
MOORHEAD The Moorhead boys hockey team is Minnesota's No. 1 Class AA team in the Let's Play Hockey polls released Tuesday, Dec. 31.
The 11-1 Spuds have won 11 straight games and moved up from last week's No. 4 ranking.
Hill-Murray (9-0-1) remained at No. 2, and St. Thomas Academy (10-1-0) fell from No. 1 to No. 3 after a 4-1 loss to Moorhead on Saturday, Dec. 28, during the Tradition Holiday Invitation at the Dakotah Ice Center in Prior Lake, Minn.
Edina (8-3-0) fell one spot from No. 3 to No. 4 in this week's poll, and Rogers (11-1-1) climbed from No. 7 to No. 5.
The remaining top 10 teams in Class AA include No. 6 Stillwater (8-1-0), No. 7 Cretin/Derham Hall (8-2-1), No. 8 Rosemount (12-1-0), No. 9 White Bear Lake (7-2-1) and No. 10 Wayzata (8-4-1).
Moorhead lost 3-2 in overtime to Wayzata to open the season, but the Spuds' 11-game winning streak since then includes two wins over No. 4 Edina, Saturday's win over then No. 1 St. Thomas Academy, wins Grand Rapids (No. 12 Class AA), Minnetonka (No. 15 AA) and Eden Prairie (No. 13 AA). The Spuds also defeated Warroad, ranked No. 5 in this week's Let's Play Hockey Class A poll.
The Spuds will resume their season with four straight home games in the first two weeks of January, starting with a game against Buffalo on Thursday, January 2 at 6:00 PM, followed by a rematch against St. Thomas Academy on Saturday, January 4 at 5:00 PM.
