Boulter guides Great Britain to the quarter-finals of the United Cup and plays against Poland
Australia defeated Great Britain 2-1 in the United Cup in Sydney on Wednesday evening. But Great Britain are through to the quarter-finals of the mixed-teams competition with the winner of Group F and Australia are eliminated.

Katie Boulter gave Australia an early 1-0 lead, racing past Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-1 in the final Group F tie at the United Cup in Sydney. The Briton's outright victory in 24th place ensured that Great Britain would finish top of Group F.
Alex de Minaur secured a resounding 6-2, 6-1 win against Billy Harris on Wednesday night, sending the tie into a decider and keeping his country's hopes alive. But De Minaur and Olivia Gadecki failed to beat Charles Broom and Olivia Nicholls by a margin big enough to claim the quarter-final spot allocated to Sydney's top second-placed team, who went to the Czech Republic.
De Minaur and Gadecki triumphed 6-3, 7-6(3) to end the group stage on a high despite their time in the event coming to an end.
Great Britain join Italy and Poland as Sydney's group winners. The country will play against Group B winner Poland on Thursday.
Earlier in the singles match, Boulter dominated Gadecki from the start, showing superior consistency and depth from the baseline. He needed just 70 minutes to secure the victory. She broke Gadecki straight out of the gate and saved the only break point to cross the finish line.
“I've been trying to avoid all the statistics about all this, but we were having dinner with Laura Robson last night and luckily she told me to win in straight sets,” Boulter said. “So I felt the pressure from last night, so I really appreciate that, Laura.”

De Minaur thrilled the crowd at the Ken Rosewall Arena, where he won his first ATP Tour title in 2019. The home favorite needed just 77 minutes to beat the Brit in their first Lexus ATPHead2Head meeting.
“There is no other place I would rather be than here, now with you,” De Minaur told the fans in his on-pitch comments.
